Yo Bo Cantina Fresca-1067 East Montague Ave-North Charleston

Yo Bo is a casual Mexican restaurant that offers delicious burritos, tacos and salads, any of which can be made with grilled veggies or tofu. The tortilla soup is also vegan and the homemade salsa is worth the trip in itself. 

Azul Mexicano-1078 East Montague, Suite A-North Charleston

Azul Mexicano is a Mexican restaurant in Park Circle. Their menu includes a vegetarian section with veggie fajitas, tofu tacos al pastor, portabello tacos , and a veggie soup. In addition, they offer an Azul Bowl that can be made with veggies and a few salads. With all menu items, ask for no cheese or sour cream. Azul Mexicano is owned by the same restaurant group as Agaves Cantina on Daniel Island and Los Altos in Goose Creek.

Basil-1070 East Montague Ave, North Charleston

Now your favorite Thai food from Basil is available in Park Circle! You can get basil rolls made with tofu or any curry can be made vegan. Ask your server for vegan options with no fish sauce. The dining room is beautiful and there is also an outdoor patio for dining al fresco.

Bombay Bazaar-6216 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston

Bombay Bazaar is a family-owned business that serves Indian food and they also offer a lunch buffet with many vegetarian and vegan options.      

Chipotle Mexican Grill-7398 Rivers Avenue, Ste 102-North Charleston; 4953 Center Pointe Drive-North Charleston & 1209 N Main St, Ste D-Summerville

Casual Mexican chain offering many different vegetarian and vegan items such as their sofritas which is a richly seasoned and tasty tofu dish that can be made into burritos, tacos, salads and bowls.  Just make sure to ask for no cheese or sour cream.  You get a lot of bang for your buck at this casual yet comfy Mexican restaurant. 

Dashi-1262 Remount Road, North Charleston

Dashi's menu is a mixture of Asian and Mexican food. It started as a food truck, which they still have, but now they have a brick and mortar, also. Many items on the menu (anything that says "Choice of Protein") can be made vegan. The vegan protein options are Marinated Fried Tofu and Seasonal Veggies. Options include tacos, a burrito, a banh mi sandwich, and pad thai. The staff seem pretty knowledgeable about how to veganize menu options.

Destiny Community Cafe-5060 Dorchester Road, Suite 320, North Charleston

Destiny Community Cafe is a non-profit, pay-what-you-can cafe that works to provide healthy meals to everyone, whether they can afford to pay or not. They always have a vegan option. Their menu varies, depending on donations. Much of their produce comes from local farms. It is located inside Scott's Grand Reception Hall.

Donato's Pizza-220 Azalea Square Boulevard, Summerville

Donato's Pizza brings another vegan pizza option to Summerville. They are a casual pizza chain that offers a vegan crust (which, looking at the ingredients also appears to be gluten-free), lots of veggies and Daiya cheese to top it off. They also offer a "Fresh Vegy" Sub that looks delicious and several salads.

EVO Pizza - 1075 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston

This busy pizza joint offers wood-fired pizzas that can easily be made vegan without the cheese.  Note-only the olive oil, puttanesca, and roasted red pepper bases are vegan. The red sauce and pesto both contain cheese. There are lots of veggies to choose from and they usually offer one vegan pizza on their menu.  Great place to go for a pizza and a drink as they offer beer, wine and other spirits as well.  They also have a craft bakery on the back side of the restaurant where you can get great fresh homemade bread. 

Five Loaves - 214 North Cedar Street, Summerville

Five Loaves is a casual restaurant with 3 locations ( downtown and Mt. Pleasant, too ).  They serve huge sandwiches and salads and typically have 2-3 vegan options for entrees. They have WONDERFUL soups many vegetarian and often at least one vegan choice. Five Loaves does a great job of keeping things local, many ingredients are from Charleston farms.  They also have wine and beer on tap.

Fusion Smoothie and Juice Bar-1305 North Main Street, Suite C-Summerville

As the name implies, Fusion Smoothie and Juice Bar sells a variety of fresh juices and smoothies, along with smoothie bowls and juice shots. Ask for no honey. Note, the granola also contains honey. They are located in the Wal-Mart shopping center off Main Street in Summerville.

Istanbul Shish Kabob Buffet-4940 Centre Pointe Dr Suite C, North Charleston

Istanbul is a casual, buffet-style restaurant in the Tanger Outlet area of North Charleston.  They serve Middle Eastern food and there are many vegan options on the buffet including falafel, hummus, various salads, stuffed grape leaves and fresh pita bread. The food is all very tasty and the staff are helpful in letting you know what items are vegan-friendly.

The Junction Kitchen & Provisions-4438 Spruill Avenue, North Charleston

This casual North Charleston restaurant is open breakfast, lunch, and brunch! They have several vegan sandwiches, sides, salads and an awesome cactus/portobello taco. Oh, and they have a 'wall of wine'...enough said!

Kabob House-5 South Alliance Drive, Suite D, Goose Creek

Kabob House is a casual Afghan restaurant off of University Blvd and Crowfield Blvd in Goose Creek. Their menu includes hummus, falafel and a veggie platter. They have a lunch buffet that includes many fruit and veggie items. Note: the naan is not vegan.

La Hacienda-5070 International Blvd #121-North Charleston; 6322 Rivers Ave-North Charleston; 8461 Resolute Way-North Charleston; 1205 N Main St-Summerville & 205 N Goose Creek Blvd-Goose Creek

​La Hacienda is a chain of casual Mexican restaurants in the Charleston area. You can order veggie fajitas or get potatoes, spinach, black beans or mushrooms for a filling. Just ask for no cheese or sour cream. And, of course, you can always order a margarita!

LG's by the Creek-1005 Tanner Ford Blvd, Hanahan

LG's by the Creek is a bar in Hanahan at Tanner Plantation.  While they don't advertise any vegan options on their menu the pizza dough here is vegan.  They have a lot of veggie options you can add to the pizza as well, just make sure to order without cheese.  They have both an inside and outside bar area where you can play corn hole, pool and darts.  During the week they also have a trivia night along with a karaoke night.    

Los Altos Mexican Grill-1316 Red Bank Road, Suite 5-Goose Creek

Los Altos Mexican Grill offers a few vegetarian options that can be made vegan with the omission of cheese and sour cream, including veggie fajitas, tofu tacos al pastor, portabello tacos, and veggie soup. You can also sub beans, potatoes, mushrooms or spinach as a filling for most items on the menu. Los Altos is owned by the same restaurant group as Agaves Cantina on Daniel Island and Azul Mexicano in North Charleston.

Mellow Mushroom - 4855 Tanger Outlet Blvd., North Charleston

This Mellow Mushroom location opened in the Spring of 2016 and has a really cool vibe to it, keeping in line with all of the other locations.  They have loads of veggie, tempeh and tofu options along with vegan cheese to top those pizzas and stuff those calzones.  They have tons of beer on tap as well.  This location is perfect after a day of shopping or even if you are going to a show or event at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.  It is also close to the airport if you need a quick bite to eat before you leave town or are just getting into town and are looking for a cool place to start your trip to Charleston!    

Mellow Mushroom - 1306 North Main St, Summerville

Mellow Mushroom is an awesome casual pizza and sandwich chain that has many locations in the area.  Options include tempeh, tofu, tons of veggies and vegan cheese.  They also have lots of beer on tap!  This one is in Summerville and is close to the freeway and has a very cool appeal to it.  Great place to go for get-togethers as there is something for everyone! 

Mod Pizza-2135 Ashley Phosphate Road, Suite 102, North Charleston

Mod Pizza is a fast-casual chain restaurant that makes pizzas and salads with unlimited toppings. They have original and gluten-free crust, both of which are vegan, and offer vegan cheese and lots of veggies to top them off. Their website gives detailed nutrition info.

Moe's Southwest Grill-7800 Rivers Ave-North Charleston; 4948 Centre Point Dr #101-North Charleston; 9514 Dorchester Rd #106-Summerville & 214 Azalea Square Blvd, Unit A-Summerville

Moe's is a fast-casual Mexican restaurant chain with several locations in the Charleston area. They offer burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and taco salads with the option of organic tofu.

Park Circle Creamery-1044 East Montague Ave, North Charleston

The Park Circle Creamery is a locally-owned ice cream parlor where all of the ice creams are made in-house. They always have at least one vegan variety available which is coconut milk-based. It is a great place to stop for dessert after dining in one of the many vegan-friendly restaurants in the Park Circle area.

Poke Bros.-5070 International Boulevard, North Charleston

Poke Bros. is a chain of fast-casual build-your-own Poke Bowl restaurants. You can start with a base of rice or salad and top it with lots of veggie options, including tofu, edamame, carrots, ginger, seaweed salad and avocado. Then top it off with a sauce and maybe another topping like sesame seeds or fried onions. Yum!

Sesame Burgers & Beer-4726 Spruill Ave, North Charleston

The name says it all-Sesame Burgers & Beer is a casual restaurant/bar that offers lots of different beers and burgers with eclectic toppings. Their black bean burger is vegan but the buns are not, so you can get your burger as a salad or eat it on a pita. Everything here is made from scratch, including mustard (ask for the house-made mustard-it rocks! Sadly, the house-made ketchup includes anchovy). Burger toppings include burgundy mushrooms, guacamole and grilled zucchini. Plus their fries are delicious!

Taco Boy-106 Front Street, Summerville

This casual Mexican joint offers three different options for veg tacos-Al Pastor Seitan, Roasted Cauliflower and Tempura Avocado (sans slaw and crema makes them vegan)-great guac, and black beans can easily be added to other menu options to veganize them. They also offer a roasted veggie rice bowl.
